RETAINING WALLS - TIMBER, GABION & BLOCK
The types of retaining wall that we most commonly build are timber, gabion basket and block. Hillside properties often require retaining work to create usable level space.
Retaining work should be considered carefully as it can add significant construction costs to a project.
TIMBER RETAINING WALLS
Timber retaining walls are usually the cheapest option - either using half rounds as seen in the above retaining wall picture or T&G (Tongue & Groove) planks as seen here.
The T&G planks can provide a very finished look, especially when stained.
GABION BASKET RETAINING WALLS
What are Gabion baskets?
Gabion baskets are welded galvanised steel mesh baskets.
They are assembled on site and are usually filled with stacked stones.
Highly customisable
Gabion baskets come in standard sizes and can also be made to measure.
Because of this, and because you have a choice in the type of stone that you use as fill, they are very customisable.
They look great in the garden too!
BLOCK RETAINING WALLS
The most durable of retaining walls
A concrete block wall provides a very robust retaining wall solution.
Concrete block walls are laid and then filled with concrete.
Numerous finishes for a custom look & feel
Concrete blocks come in a variety of styles and colours and can also be finished in numerous ways - left as is, honed, painted, plastered, or faced with a stone veneer.
They are a very versatile product.
They understood and listened to what I wanted and then exceeded my expectations in delivery.
Most helpful and tidy work too - not easy for them as it poured with rain while they were trying to finish the job. A pleasure to deal with.
